For as long as I can remember, I have been profoundly deaf in my left ear. This is something that I sometimes struggle with on a day-to-day basis but, having known no different, isn't something that will define my success on a day-to-day basis...

1. Pardon?

I see the colours of daylight,
the beauty of nature’s Spring.
But I pray for all the wonders
a bit of sound would bring.

I see your mouth moving,
yet I can’t hear any words.
The trees dancing silently
with nothing to be heard.

A marching band playing,
vibrating through the ground.
They pass the place I’m standing
but I do not hear a sound.

Music all around me,
wherever I may go.
Yet what it really sounds like
I will never know.

The muffled noise of talking;
a broken ballad’s verse.
A cherished linnet singing
the music they rehearse.

But I won’t lose this game
led by light and touch:
although I cannot hear the same,
I listen just as much.
