1. Chapter 1

“Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to say that for destruction ice is also great and would suffice.”                                                                                                                                                                   -Robert Frost

                             Chapter 1 Sky’s POV

I never realized that wishing the world would just end up in flames or frozen in the coldest of ice would turn into this. Now that the world has ended, I realize that I would have rather ended my dark and lonely life than to watch this beautiful world turn into ash or snow. All my friends say I can help others because of my gift. But, how can I help others when I don't even know how to help myself? I already let the world down. I'm no longer needed, but my friends say otherwise. They say I am meant to stay on this earth only to protect others, but I think no one would even notice if I was gone, right? I mean, you can easily find another tall, blonde, blue eyed girl. It shouldn't be that hard to replace a broken girl in a broken world.

"Sky!" I heard the very familiar voice of my friend Max behind me.

"Hello Max, what do you need?" I said turning around to face him.

"G'Day, we were just about to find somewhere to stay for tonight, but I need someone to help me look for Tucker and water. I was wondering if you wanted to help?" he said brushing his hand through his curly, strawberry blonde hair.

"Umm, I'm not really in the mood to go looking for stuff right now, I'm sorry. I'll be in the opera house, at least what's left of it, if you need me. I'll see you later." He then teleported away.

After he left I walked over to the remains of the once beautiful Sydney Opera House. I remember coming here as a kid with my parents to see the Australian Ballet perform The Nutcracker. I remember it like it was just yesterday. That´s where I found my love and passion for the performing arts, and that's when I started dreaming about being famous. That dream quickly died after my parents got into a fatal car accident. I was then put in an orphanage, where I've been living ever since.

As I turned down the street towards the ruins, a light smell of smoke invaded my nostrils, burning them lightly. With every breath I took the smell grew stronger. As I got closer to the house I needed to breathe through my mouth. When I reached the Opera house, pieces of ash flew around me, some of it sticking to my clothing. After I climbed over most of the rubble, I  sat on what was left of the large stage. I looked out at the water seeing boats slowly sinking into the harbor. The sun was setting when I heard everyone behind me laughing.

"Hey Sky!" said Eliza my curly black haired friend.

"Hello Eliza, did you and the boys find a place to stay?"

"Yes, it's about two blocks away from here." she said with a yawn.

"Ok, shall we go then? You look exhausted."

"Ya lets go, Max can you get us there quick?"

"Ya sure, hold onto me," He said, we all proceeded to grab onto his  arms and shoulders. There was a blurry gust of the wind that suddenly swirled around us and then all of the sudden we were in front of a building that was still intact, for the most part, the right wall had collapsed during the apocalypse. As we walked into the building I looked for a nice spot to sleep when I had seen a little picture float down off the wall. I reached down to pick up this tattered piece of paper to look at it. On the back, it seemed to have been written on it but it was too worn to read so I flipped it around and by looking at the face of the little blonde girl in pigtails with her two front teeth gone in her smile. It was me from when I was 6 years old, right after my parents died. This was my old orphanage, I started to feel my heartbeat quicken. The walls seemed to have started to close in and trap me. I knew I was having a panic attack.

"Sky?" I heard Leo ask.

"Sky… SKY!??, SOMEONE GET THAT PAPER OUT OF HER HAND AND GET HER OUTSIDE!" Eliza was yelling at everyone, at least she knew what was happening and what to do. I suddenly felt Max's cold hand brushed mine as he ripped the picture out of my hand. Then Leo's strong arms lifted me off the ground as he started to carry me out of the building.
