30. Chapter 29

"Hurry up Granger!" Draco knocked on Hermione's door as he checked the time.

"I'm almost done Draco."shouted back Hermione as she took her handbag and stepped out. "Can't you wait for a minute? You don't have to shout at me like that."

Draco grinned. "You know that I don't like waiting. Okay hurry up now. I don't want us getting late. I'd very much like to get home soon so let's head there right away."

"Aww isn't it sweet? You're so eager to attend this wedding." Hermione beamed at him.

"Haha, what a joke? I can't believe I'm actually even attending this wedding. I thought Longbottom was to marry last October." They headed down as Hermione nodded.

"Indeed but I heard they had a very tight schedule at Hogwarts so they had to postpone the wedding but they've finally decided to tie the knot after all." Hermione sounded emotional.

"What's with you getting so touché?" Draco snickered.

Hermione slapped his arm. "Hush! I'm just happy for my friends!" Draco rolled his eyes.

"May I?"he extended his right arm and they apparated to the location where the wedding was to take place. It was Neville's grandmother house. It was a small but a lovely place with a big garden where the wedding was taking place. Many people were already sitting and chatting about. At a distance Hermione caught a glimpse of red hair. Ginny was talking to none other than Luna.

"Luna!" Hermione squealed. Luna and Ginny both faced Hermione with smiling faces.

"Hermione." Luna still sounded dreamy and Ginny looked as beautiful as always. What a beautiful friendship this girls had.

"Congratulations Luna. I'm so happy for you." Hermione held Luna's hand and smiled warmly.

"Thank you Hermione. I'm so happy that you came. I thought you wouldn't be able to come after what happened last time." Luna sounded concerned.

"Oh don't talk about it. It's already been a month now. Trust me Draco's not left my side even once after that day and he does bully me with his orders but I know he's doing all those for me." Hermione looked at Draco who was standing looking at the other people dance already.

"He does care."said Ginny and smiled at Hermione.

"Where's Neville?"asked Hermione.

"Oops I forgot that Nargels were after him. I should go and help him. Please make yourselves comfortable!" Luna dreamily headed inside the house. Both Hermione and Ginny smiled at each other knowingly.

"Where's Harry?" Hermione looked around.

"He's somewhere around here. How have you been?"said Ginny.

"All good! Actually I've never been better." Hermione smiled.

"Aww isn't that so sweet?"said Ginny.

"You look at Malfoy every time you speak."said Ginny making Hermione flush deeply.

"Not at all."she denied though she knew she did. "You should find Harry I guess."

Ginny laughed. "Alright alright. Where will he even go? He's my husband. He'll have to come to me after all."

"You're right Gin." Ginny headed to the other direction and Hermione went to where Draco was still standing.

"Took you long."said Draco.

"Sorry."said Hermione and Draco just nodded. They made their way to where the benches were arranged. They took their place and looked around them. The decorations were a bit queer. Pumpkins and radishes were hung over. There were feathery things that blew with the breeze. At the farthest corner stood a statue of a peculiar animal. Hermione was more than intrigued by that animal. She had never seen such.

"Hmm."said Hermione absentmindedly as she observed that animal.

"It's February 27 today."said Draco.

"I know."said Hermione.

"Meaning it's almost time…"

Hermione jerked her head to look at him. "Time?" She squint her eyes.

"It's almost a year now."said Draco. Hermione's heart sank. It's not like she hadn't noticed. She in fact had looked for ways to find a loophole to the vow. They both hadn't voiced it ever but today Draco did. And to think that they had to part broke her heart.

"How do you feel about it?"asked Hermione trying not to cry.

"Well I don't know."said Draco as he looked at Hermione. "What about you?"

"I…I don't know."stammered Hermione. Was it wrong to ask him to stay knowing full well that when the time comes they have to live without each other? She couldn't look at him and Draco knew well enough that she was avoiding eye contact with him.

"Hermione?" Hermione looked at him with a cheerful smile plastered on her face which was clearly too fake for Draco. "Don't do this to yourself. We still have few days together. We'll make the best out of it."

"I'm fine." She sighed. "Well I hope to be. Anyway how's training going on?"

"Pretty good. I'll be able to be a healer in no time now." Draco looked content as he talked about it. Hermione felt herself rather happy for him.

Then the maid of honor and bridesmaids came along. Ginny was the maid of honor in place of Hermione since both Neville and Luna didn't want to trouble Hermione since she wasn't still properly healed. Some injuries do take time to heal. But she was still really happy that she could attend this wedding. Luna walked down the aisle with Mr. Lovegood who was at the verge of crying right there. Luna however still looked dreamy. Neville looked nervous. He looked really nice too. He had changed a lot physically. He had an auror body. He couldn't control his tears when he saw Luna. Harry was his best man who consoled him. Neville couldn't stop his tears and Draco watched in bewilderment.

Why the boys cried would always be very mystifying to him. Were they sad that they were going to be prisoners for life or they already regretted marrying? He was sure that he wouldn't cry on his wedding day.

He heard Hermione sniff too and sure enough she was crying.

"Why are you crying?"asked Draco worried that she may be hurting again.

"I'm just too happy for them."sobbed Hermione.

The vows were made and the wedding was over. Everyone was now busy talking and congratulating the newly weds. Hermione hugged both Neville and Luna. She congratulated them and sobbed. Neville hugged her back as he knew that she was such an emotional person. Then both the bride and groom were escorted to the dance floor to dance.

Draco and Hermione took a table and sat since Hermione was still not fit enough to dance. Just then Parvati Patel approached them. "Oh my god, Hermione we finally meet." Parvati embraced Hermione shortly and looked at Draco. "I heard you both live together now."

"Yes. We do."said Hermione. Someone Hermione despised beside Rita Skeeter was Parvati Patel. She was a reporter at the and always wrote nonsense. Parvati was the one who always pried into other lives since her days at Hogwarts. She was a nosy girl and she still was. Hermione knew what she needed now. Some spicy gossips about Draco and her.

"That's lovely. How's living together been for you both?"asked Parvati with great interest.

"That's none of your concern!"said Draco annoyed by Patel he didn't like from the school days.

"Trust me it's the only thing that interests me. In fact the whole wizarding world wants to know about you both and I want to do them the favor of filling them about your relationship." She smiled wickedly the kind you could always see Skeeter give you when she has something wicked plan for you.

"Oh please you don't have to say anything more if you keep wanting to have your job. Skeeter will fire you at once if I ask her to."said Draco and Parvati gave an astonished look.

"Family friends!"said Draco. Parvati paled visibly.

Parvati laughed. "You took me so seriously Draco Malfoy. I didn't mean to say like that." She indeed could change her color so fast. Hermione felt disgusted by her.

Then Parvati looked at her. "How have you been Hermione? You know I've missed you so much." Hermione rolled her eyes.

"I was fine just a moment ago but I can't say that I'm now."said Hermione. Parvati laughed.

"Patel?"said Ginny from behind them. Parvati put a big grin on her face.

"Ginny Wea…I mean Potter." Parvati went in to hug her too but Ginny made a face at her. "Oh come on forget the past and just move on. I have a grand news for you."

"Really?" Ginny cocked her eyebrow.

"Yes now I'm back to England again. I'll be working here again like good old days. I did miss London a lot."said Parvati.

"That's supposed to be a bad news I guess."said Ginny. "Last time I knew you were sent away to Netherlands because you wrote a whole lot of bullshit about the ministry."

"Don't be hard on me Ginny. I know you're hurt because I couldn't attend your wedding but trust me I was really sad about it too."said Parvati. Ginny went red and was about to lash out at her but Hermione stopped her from creating a scene.

"Parvati! Stop it! Please don't do this. We're here attending our friend's wedding and I don't want to ruin it just because you don't know when to shut your mouth. Leave now."said Hermione and Draco watched the exchange between them all surprised.

"Oh sure sure." Parvati turned to leave when she suddenly turned back. "How's little boy doing? I almost forgot to ask about him Hermione."

Hermione shook and paled visibly beside Draco. Something she's been trying to forget for so long was thrown at her like that. She felt her limbs go weak. "Patel! I don't want you to speak about that!"warned Ginny.

"Well I didn't say anything wrong now,did I? I'm just asking how's Hermione's son. Well it did took me with absolute surprise when I knew that she was now living with Draco Malfoy but things can always change. I've always known that there was a spark between them but I didn't take Hermione to leave her child's father to be with someone else…"but nothing else was heard except a loud slap.

"How dare you speak such things without knowing the truth? How dare you? I could sue you for this but wait that wouldn't affect you because you're a beast!"cried Hermione drawing much attention to her now. Soon Luna and Neville were beside her and Neville spoke to Parvati who then stormed out of there. Hermione shook as she cried. She ran off somewhere else but Draco stood glued to where he was. He couldn't believe what he just heard. She had a son?

There were a lot of chattering and people were squeaking while Draco still felt frozen. Did he mistake to understand the conversation entirely? "What's this all about?"asked Draco to Ginny. Ginny looked at him.

"I bet she hasn't told you?"said Ginny. Draco shook his head. "Guessed so. Well Hermione doesn't talk about that any longer. She was shattered when she lost her baby. She wouldn't talk to anyone and things weren't easy when Ron left her. She suffered a lot!" Ginny was almost in tears.

"So she did have a baby?"asked Draco still not believing it.

"Was expecting but the baby never came…"

"I need to get to her. God knows what must she be feeling like right now."mumbled Draco and quickly left the place. He looked everywhere for her and she wasn't there. He went home and sure enough she was slumped on the sofa crying her heart out. Everything was a mess. She had broken several things and ruined her most priced possession, her bookshelf! Meaning very bad! She was very…very hurt. She was weeping like she had lost someone just now. He could have never imagined that she even was expecting a baby with that Weasley. It somehow hurt him but to think she lost her baby made him feel extremely sad too.

He felt guilty for the things he had said to her in the past.

'Do you both have kids? I bet you do and your boyfriend's mother must be looking after them.' He had said such cruel things to her. No wonder she had been so mad at him. He felt like a beast. He slowly approached her and she was weeping violently. This was something absolutely new to him.

"Hermione?" Draco spoke gently. She didn't hear him or pretend not to because she didn't respond. "Don't cry please."

"What else am I supposed to do then? I hate her! I hate her!"cried Hermione. She began to become much more violent. Draco embraced her tightly.

"I know you want to cry but does it make things better? Does it change what has already happened? It'll only hurt more and I'm not letting you get more hurt than you've already been."said Draco.

"I lost my son! I was so happy to have him. I hadn't been that happy for so long and then I know I've most my child…my child!"cried Hermione. Draco rubbed her back soothingly to calm her.

"Shh…don't cry Hermione. Calm down now."said Draco. "You can share anything with me if that makes you feel any better."

Hermione wiped her tears and looked at him. "You don't have to."

"I'll if that helps you." Draco encouraged her.

She nodded and began telling her tale.

"It was…"
